I’ve figured out my philosophy:

Life is very complicated and contradictory, and that is okay.

As a matter of fact, not only is it okay, it is actually essential to the whole endeavor. This sounds flippant, but it actually has real-world implications, which is essential for any philosophy if it is to be more than just masturbation.

Notable:

  • Any movement that strives for purity is probably wrong.
  • You should be careful not to be overconfident, because things are probably more complicated than you think.
  • If your reasoning has too many steps, then be cautious about your conclusions. Mathematical axioms, when brought into the real world, need error terms.
  • The center, rather than being a position of compromise between extremists, should be a place people stand with pride.
  • “Fuck with it and find out” is really the only way to gain any kind of knowledge or wisdom.

“Life is complicated and contradictory”, “Don’t be a dick”, “Don’t stalk the women”, and “Not on your roommate’s stuff”, seem to be the guiding principles in my life. They’ve served me well, and I recommend them highly.
