Unfortunately, it depends on the NAT box vendors buying into the idea, and it&#039;s the P2P people who really need it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&#039;ve had a related idea that doesn&#039;t require router support.  Create a standard protocol+library that implements IPv6-over-UDP-over-IPv4 and automatically does NAT hole-punching via STUN (and the like).  Create a DHT for keeping track of STUN rendezvous points, and use AnyCast to allow nodes to bootstrap into the DHT.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
