you did a funny thing, where in point (1) you are talking about Freedom, and in point (5) you are talking about Financialfreedom. It would be a weird, weird, world if an assumption about one applied to the other.

1) Trees require sunlight to grow
2) blah

3) blah

4) blah

5) Binary Trees exist in simulated space where there is no sun!

Also, I picked up a libertarian newspaper. A leading member of the party had written an essay
"I used to believe that funding libraries and schools and parks was a good thing... now I understand that by raising taxes for these projects that I was taking the freedom away from my neighbors to decide how to spend their own money"

This sort of analysis of financial-freedom is, in my opinion, sociopathic. It totally fails to consider opportunity cost: and in modern times, the opportunity-economy is way more scarce than the money-economy.

---

On a personal note, I distrust any system that requires food and water to be stored behind locked doors.
Capitalism requires locks.

---

My world is a wiki.

I know quite a few people who equate personal and financial freedom - and it certainly seems true that, once you restrict financial freedom too far, you inevitably restrict personal freedom. But I agree that they are not exactly the same.

Mostly, I just think it is interesting that financial freedom may be incompatible with democracy.

For quite some time the income distribution in the US was, if not fat-tailed, at least very odd. The existence of a large middle class that was larger than the lower and upper put together is a historical oddity, and decidedly unnatural-seeming.

When *not* left to their own devices, do markets produce distributions that are *not* fat-tailed?

What are some historical examples?
