i read this and i think of prolog. it always seemed like magic when we used it in CS60.

"prolog can solve any puzzle all by itself", it hought to myself, "you just have to tell it the rules."

of course, as is the way of things, the price you pay for not giving it any instructions, is that you have a hell of a time explaining the rules to it.

amusingly enough, this turns out to be the very topic of my disertation.

in re prolog, i am pretty well convinced that it is very much not the answer.
