I have a theory that we’re all drowning in data. If that’s true, then we’ve entered what might be considered a new age of computation and human existence. Now, instead of trying to find out information, we’re trying to restrict our input into only that data which is important to us. Besides that, we want to be able to create data to share with greater and greater ease, because you never know what will be useful later on.

In an effort to help me put of the thoughts that teem through my head, I’ve created this idea bin. The important thing is to copy these thoughts down before they disappear. Currently, this might seem a like like a wiki, or a lot like JWZ’s gruntle. It has a few differences, but the concept is similar: a platform for telling stories. It might be nice to also add a blog view to this system, and if you have a blog, you need to have and rss feed or an atom feed.

MIT had something going with Haystack, but it looks like they havent touched it in awhile, and it is slower than... well, slow.

I get really excited about computer technologies that attempt to filter information by taking advantage of the vast number of minds taking part in the internet. Google is one such example (part of its algorithm for finding relevant web pages is based on the implicit approval that people bestow on web pages by linking to them). The slashdot moderation system is another (it finds interesting/funny/useful comments by aggregating the opinions of thousands of readers). Another example is Amazon.com's "customers who bought this title also bought" feature (it uses the buying habits of many users to make a recommendation that's personally relevant to a single person).
